Description
It is a brand of Griseofulvin 500mg tablet and 125mg/5ml brown-coloured, chocolate-flavoured suspension which has a broad antifungal action with a simple convenient once daily dosage. It is safe for all age groups and well tolerated by children and adults. It is indicated for fungi infections such as Tinea Pedis and Tinea manas (ringworm of the feet and hands).
Tinea Cruis and Tinea corporis (Ringworm of the groin and the body), and Onchomycosis (fungus infection of the nails).
Refucil is fast acting and it’s side effects are mild on a long term use compared to other antifungal drugs.
Clinical Pharmacology
Griseofulvin is fungistatic with in-vitro activity against various species of Microsporum, Epidermophyton, and Trichophyton. It is deposited in keratin precursor cells and is concentrated in the stratum corneum of the skin and in the nails and hair, thus preventing fungal invasion of newly formed cells. Griseofulvin is metabolized by the liver mainly to 6- dimethyl griseofulvin which is excreted in the urine.

The drug is contraindicated in patients with prophyria, hepatocellular failure, and in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to griseofulvin. It may diminish the effects of coumarin anti coagulants and oral contraceptive possibly by increasing their rate of metabolism. It may enhance the effects of alcohol. Effects of griseofulvin is diminished by concurrent therapy with barbiturates. Use of griseofulvin in pregnancy is not recommended.
