Reals Group started as Reals Pharmaceutical Limited, a company incorporated in 1995 but started operation in January 1996 as the scientific office of AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals Limited, whose Headquarters was in the United Kingdom. Reals Pharmaceutical Limited was one of the first pharmaceutical companies to successfully commence the local scientific and marketing office in Nigeria when such was new to the Nigerian pharmaceutical industry. The company later translated to a full-fledged agency of AstraZeneca UK, marketing and distributing pharmaceutical products, mostly antihypertensive, antibiotics and other innovative products in Nigeria.
In 2000, Reals Pharmaceutical set up the first subsidiary – Reals Specialties LTD that initially focused on branded generics from Indonesia and China, and later introduced locally produced medicaments through a contract manufacturing arrangement with some local manufacturers. It is on record to be among the first pharmaceutical company to enter into toll manufacturing agreement and the brands that have become very successful include Retrax Tablets and Syrup, Refucil suspension (Griseofulvin), Bromex Syrup and Bromex Plus Syrup. All these products are about 20 years old and still going strong.
In 2005, the company set up a confectionary manufacturing plant in Abeokuta, Ogun State to manufacture hard-boiled candies, Karigo Mint, Mummies and Mango Candies, which was a success in this category. On October 10th 2008 the group commissioned and relocated to its own purposely built corporate headquarters and warehouse complex known as REALS PLAZA, located at Plot 1 L.J Dosunmu Street, Central Business District, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
Reals group remains a very relevant and active player in the very competitive pharmaceutical market, possessing both spread and reach in the very profitable Nigerian business terrain. From the initial staff strength of nine in 1996, we currently have close to 150 staff consisting of Pharmacists, Biochemists, Microbiologists, Accountants, Administrators, warehouse managers, and others staff. We operate through a mini depot system in three different parts of the country for fast delivery of products to all our distributors spread all over the country.
